Keep on moving.
It's hard to believe that 43 years passed before we began the journey to recognize the great contributions of Rufus Paschel. But our family's leaders are gathering to make a difference and to set an example for the future generations to follow. On 8 November, 2013, Walter, William, and Phillip Paschel Sr. gathered with other family members to officially mark the final resting place of their father, Rufus Paschel at the Montevallo Alabama city cemetary. They also stopped to remember their mother Mary Paschel who is also buried at the Montevallo cemetary.
Later, they gathered family members to inspect the property where they grew up located on Salem Road in Montevallo... And though the house they once lived in is merely a shell of itself, a burned single family home with a tin roof, it still stands and offers a clue to humble beginnings for our family. As the elders gathered, they spoke of roads that once led to the property and how it used to be accessible from all sides. Now, it is shrouded by forest and brambles, landlocked by a church and an apartment complex. Yet, somehow, it still serves as a clear reminder that even though we come from humble beginnings and have endured many challenges, we are still here... Still fighting, still serving the community, still raising our families, still...
